Further successful injections of oil in the Ice Engineering Facility Test Basin at the US Army’s Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) in New Hampshire took place on 10th, 12th, 17th and 19th November 2014.
Over three days following each injection, data was captured using a suite of aerial and underwater sensors to include radar, cameras, sonar, fluorometers and spectrometers. Each injection was conducted under different ice conditions and amounts of oil designed to develop instrument response curves. On 12th November, in order to capture data on the behaviour of oil of different temperatures, a warm oil injection was conducted.
We will continue monitoring each of the injections to observe the instrument response as the oil is encapsulated in the ice layer.
