In Situ Burning of Oil in Ice – Development of Aerial Ignition Systems for In Situ Burn Operations

Key Goals

The objective of this research project is to develop improved ignition systems to facilitate the use of ISB in offshore arctic environments by extending offshore reach and shrinking response times. This project is has two elements;

  • Development and testing of an integrated herder delivery and ignition system and
  • Development of a long-range aerial ignition system applicable to the spring scenario of oiled melt pools on the ice surface.
